Local History Sites Workshop (Joint Meeting with the Havens History Group)

Broadhven Village Hall at 7.30 pm

This is being run by Polly Groom and a colleague from Cambria Archaeology and will demonstrate how local members can assist in reporting on sites listed on the Cambria Archaeology Database. They would also be grateful for any suggestions of new sites suitable for inclusion. It should be a good opportunity to get to know in detail all the historically significant sites in our area.

Sue Armour, Librarian in charge of the Computer Room, will show members how to access Local and Family History websites available on the Internet. She will also provide information on the Library's Local and Family History resources.
The visit starts at 6.30 pm. Please assembly in the foyer of the County Library, Dew Street, Haverfordwest. Parking available at the rear of the Library.

Open Days at West Blockhouse Fort SM 8167 0358
This victorian fort was constructed in the 1850s as part of the defensive fortifications of Milford Haven. It is now owned by the Landmark Trust, available as holiday accommodation only and not normally open to the public. This is an opportunity to visit this well preserved and interesting site. Opening times 10.00 am to 3.30 pm, admission free.

Social Evening with Wine and Cheese to Celebrate the Launch of the Group's Website
7.30 pm Coronation Hall, Dale
Presentations will be given by Mark Thomas, County Museums Officer, on 'The Virtual Museum' and Catherine Palmer, ICT Development Officer, PAVS. A warm welcome is extended to all. Come and enjoy the presentations followed by an informal chat and glass of wine. Artefacts and photographs of the locality will be on view. Admission £2.00.

2.00 pm 'Dedication of a Stone Seat in Memory of the late Brigadier CTW Gough OBE' - 1911-2001, L/Bdr Artificer at West Blockhouse Fort and Battery 1931-1935 - led by The Revd Dennis Wight, vicar of Dale Parish Church involving Bishop J Ivor Rees, former Bishop of St David's, local, military and ex-service members with Honoured Guest Mrs Olive Gough [widow] and History Group members. Family members, ex-colleagues, friends, WI members, members of the community, and those involved in the construction of the stone seat and in the day's celebrations were also guests.
