RESEARCH : West Blockhouse Fort

West Blockhouse Fort: L/Bdr Artificer to Brigadier CTW GOUGH OBE, 1911-2001, served as a L/Bdr Artificer, at the West Blockhouse Fort and Battery from August 1931 to 1935.

Brigadier Gough, hard of hearing, and in a wheelchair, visited our first Exhibition to launch the 'Dale' book in July 2000. He was very appreciative of our efforts and began a year, despite ailing health, when Clifford Gough supported us with photographs and memories, also financially. He inspired the Group to produce a CDRom on the West Blockhouse Fort. We, in turn, provided information to enable him to complete two articles published in April 2001 in military journals.

The Group has an extensive file on the life and works of Brigadier Gough and organised the construction of a stone seat in his memory on the coastal path above the West Blockhouse Fort. This was dedicated on the 10th October 2003.
